Career Studies Certificate

Purpose: This curriculum is designed to meet the short-term training needs of the adult part-time student by presenting the essential technical concepts and practices of the Commercial HVAC field.
Program Objectives: Employment opportunities include commercial HVAC system installer, HVAC technician, commercial HVAC technical service advisor, and commercial HVAC sales.
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements for admission into the program.
Complete VWCC’s Residential HVAC Career Studies Certificate program and possession of the Universal EPA 608 certification or complete a residential HVAC training program from an accredited institution equivalent to VWCC’s residential HVAC program and possession of the Universal EPA 608 certification
or
Two years occupational experience in the HVAC field with supervisory sign off, possession of the Universal EPA 608 certification, and passing an HVAC assessment exam offered by the college
or
Two years occupational experience in the HVAC with supervisory sign off. Applicants without possession of the Universal EPA 608 certification are required to successfully complete AIR 121 and AIR 122 courses which lead to earning the Universal EPA 608 certification.
Placement Requirements: Students who do not demonstrate readiness for the college-level math will be required to select appropriate MDE coursework in consultation with an advisor.
Program Notes: Completion of this degree will prepare the student to take the journeyman’s exam as well as prepare them to go to work in the commercial HVAC field.
