Purpose: Based on the Mechatronics Systems Engineering Technology parent program, this specialization provides graduates with advanced electrical theory and hands-on practice in a wide range of subjects, including electrical and mechanical systems and devices, electronic circuits, power and machines, computer technology and telecommunications. The Electrical Engineering specialization focuses on electrical design, analysis and test courses in place of the Mechatronics courses covering advanced manufacturing.
Program Objectives: Entry-level or advanced opportunities as electrical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering technicians who assist in identifying and solving problems with electrical equipment and systems found in industrial, commercial plants or laboratories. Job tasks include evaluating performance or developmental parts; electrical component assembly; calibrating, maintaining and repair of electrical instruments; preparing technical reports; and analyzing test information to resolve design-related problems.
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to credit-level coursework established by the college.
Placement Requirements: Students who do not demonstrate readiness for college-level English will be required to select appropriate EDE 10 or ENG 111 /EDE 11* coursework in consultation with an advisor.
Students who do not demonstrate readiness for college-level math will be required to select appropriate MDE coursework in consultation with an advisor.
Program Notes: Upon completion of the Electrical Engineering Technology Specialization, students will be prepared to take the Associate Certified Electronics Technican Exam. Credentials from the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) have also been added to select classes to compliment the coursework. Upon completion of the Electrical Engineering Technology Specialization, students will also have had the opportunity to earn NC3 credentials in Multimeters, PLCs, AC/DC measurement, and Robotics. Autocad certifications are also available to students taking CAD 111* and CAD 242* .
AAS degrees prepare students for direct employment upon completion of the degree. However, many programs may also transfer to four-year institutions. Students interested in transferring should verify program requirements with specific four-year institutions and with the program head for Electrical Engineering.
