Biotechnology Career Studies Certificate

Career Studies Certificate
221-149-01

Purpose: This curriculum is designed for individuals who seek additional skills to gain employment in the fields of Biotechnology, Health Sciences, and Scientific Research.

Program Objectives: Coursework in this program will provide students with exposure to entry and advanced level skills that may lead to employment in fields related to biotechnology, health sciences, and scientific research. Students will gain an understanding of essential laboratory techniques including utilizing standard operating procedures and quality control methods, aseptic techniques, and key skills related to nucleic acid and protein analysis.

Admission Requirements: This is a restricted admissions program. Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to credit-level coursework established by the college. Placement Requirements: Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to credit-level coursework established by the college.

Applicants must receive an ENG 111 , ENG 111 /EDE 11*  placement recommendation, or have successfully completed EDE 10 .

Students who do not demonstrate readiness for the college-level math will be required to select appropriate MDE coursework in consultation with an advisor.

Program Notes:  Prior to admission, students must have successfully completed NAS 2* , or BIO 101*  with a grade of C or better within the last three years. A grade of C or better must be obtained in all courses for the Biotechnology certificate to be awarded.
