The Career Studies Certificate program in Applied Interdisciplinary Science is only available to students taking Dual Enrollment classes through the Virginia Western Regional Academy for Advanced Technology.

Purpose: This curriculum will challenge the high achieving student with hands-on instruction in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology and Environmental Science.  Students will gain research experience and benefit from the project based learning activities associated with this coursework.

Program Objectives:  Graduates who successfully complete this program will receive a Career Studies Certificate in Applied Interdisciplinary Science and will be prepared to complete an Associate’s Degree, or transfer to a 4-year institution and pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Environmental Sciences. 

Admission Requirements:  Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to credit-level coursework established by the college.

Developmental Requirements: Students who do not demonstrate proficiency on the placement test in the following mathematical units will be required to complete developmental courses: MTE 1 MTE 2 MTE 3 MTE 4 MTE 5 MTE 6 MTE 7 MTE 8  and MTE 9 .  Students must be eligible for ENG 111 - College Composition I .

Program Notes:  Graduates may continue their studies in various programs at VWCC, most relevant being the AS in Science or the AS in Integrated Environmental Studies.
